Note
from the
Artistic Director

It has been a hard 5 years since the turn of the century, including scores of protests, letters, donations for Presidential candidates, whales, refugees, mustangs, the arctic refuge, Indonesia, Katrina, and every disenfranchised sentient being on this planet, I imagine that you, too are exhausted, and depressed. What a huge mess!! How will we rebuild our society, our global alliances, our economy, not to mention our environment? It is tempting to despair when outrage has left us exhausted. How to continue? What next? This season we try to address this dilemma 1st, by spending some time with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., who will help us to take a look at what happens to those who try to speak truth to power, as well as what has happened to our political process as a result of the assassinations and the Civil Rights struggle of the 1960’s. Many of us still believe that we must heal our society by addressing the inequalities and the poverty that still exist today, though until very recently, kept hidden from view. Katrina has exposed the hollow reality behind P. R. driven policies. But take heart, we may finally have the courage to publicly declare the Emperor to be butt-naked! Our second offering, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, for some, needs no explanation. Have you felt that someone you used to think you knew might have voted differently from you? Do you feel like an alien in your own country? Do you feel uneasy when you see a Hummer with “Support Our Troops” stickers on the back? Come see this new adaptation by our own Joseph Giardina, and you will find that you are not alone, and in fact may be in danger yourself! So even though we have, barring a successful impeachment, 3 more years of these people, we must, for our sanity, begin to figure out how to pick up the pieces. We at Off World turn to Dr. King for wisdom and inspiration, and then to not-so-farfetched science fiction, for a bit of fun. Please join us. As always, we look forward to a lively discussion after each performance with you.

PUFFIN DIRECTIONS

From GW Bridge Take the lower level of the GWB. After going over the bridge, follow the signs to 95/80 LOCAL LANES. Take the first exit, Exit 70 Teaneck. Make a left at the first light (behind the Marriott Hotel). Follow the road to merge onto DeGraw Ave. Go to the second stop light and make a right at Teaneck Road (there is a separate turning lane for Teaneck Rd.) Turn right at the first street: East Oakdene Ave. (There are two gas stations, one generic and one Exxon on either side of the street). East Oakdene Avenue is a quarter-block street that deadends into our parking lot to the right.

From Route 4 Take the second Teaneck Road exit off of Rte. 4. At the bottom of the exit, make a right (the signs will direct you towards Ridgefield Park). Follow Teaneck Road about one mile (landmarks: you will pass by Holy Name Hospital on your right; then Thomas Jerfferson Middle School). You will see two gas stations, an Exxon on your right and a generic gas station on your left. Make the left onto East Oakdene Avenue immediately after the generic station. We are at the bottom of the hill on the right.

Public Transit New Jersey Transit bus 167T or 167QT (Harrington Park/Dumont/New York)From the Port Authority bus terminal, take either of these buses to Teaneck: the Teaneck Road/Hillside Avenue stop. As you get off, facing the same direction as the bus is traveling, East Oakdene Avenue should be right in front of you on the right. Read PDF schedule at www.njtransit.com or call NJ Transit at 1-800-772-2222.
